Discussion Starters

We hope these questions will help you consider (or discuss with others) what God is teaching you through this month’s study of His Word.

  1. What kind of things have you seen cause division in the church today? (see Sept. 1)
  2. When Paul describes the church as "God's temple," is he talking about the building? What do you think he means by this? (see Sept. 3)
  3. Jesus said, "Do not judge or you too will be judged," in Matthew 7:1. Why, then, does Paul rebuke the Corinthians for not judging some in their church? (see Sept. 5)
  4. How does God use circumstances to guide us? (see Sept. 7)
  5. How do (and should) we react to the differences we have within the church regarding matters of moral conscience? (see Sept. 9)
  6. Do you think it is possible to place too much emphasis on the spiritual gifts? Why or why not?
  7. Answer the questions at the end of the Sept. 13th reading. Based on these answers, what do you think your spiritual gifts might be?
  8. How would you define "competence" in ministry? How do you know if you or someone else is competent?
  9. What is the difference between false guilt and the conviction of the Holy Spirit?
  10. What is “godly sorrow” and how is it different than ordinary sorrow? (see. Sept. 24).
  11. Besides giving money, what are some other ways God’s people can show generosity? (see Sept. 26)
  12. Is it true that God will never give us more than we can handle? Why or why not? (see Sept. 29)
