Discussion Starters

We hope these questions will help you consider (or discuss with others) what God is teaching you through this month’s study of His Word.

  1. The book of Proverbs contains many teachings on wisdom. Do you consider yourself wise? What does it mean to be wise?

  2. Why do foolish people “despise” or hate God’s wisdom? (Prov. 1:7)

  3. How might you read Proverbs differently knowing that it is intended to help you live a life faithful to the Lord? (see July 4)

  4. The Bible teaches that the Lord disciplines those he loves. How does that change your view of God and His relationship to you? (see July 9)

  5. In this modern age, do people worship things other than God? What things (or even people) become the objects of their worship? (see July 11)

  6. The Proverbs talk about what is in our heart and how we need to guard it. List a few practical ways you can protect your heart from evil. (see July 15)

  7. What is the link between work and worship? How might seeing work as wise, worshipful, and joyful impact our view of working? (see July 17)

  8. What things do you rely on for your wealth for protection, comfort, and security? Why is it easy to trust those things before or in place of God? (see July 22)

  9. When you experienced discipline (from God or someone in authority), how did you respond? Why is it so hard to “heed correction” as mentioned in today’s devotion? (see July 25)

  10. What has the book of Proverbs taught you about wisdom? What is the value of gaining godly wisdom? What is the danger of NOT receiving it?
