Discussion Starters

We hope these questions will help you consider (or discuss with others) what God is teaching you through this month’s study of His Word.

  1. Do you ever find it hard to pray for others? How did Paul feel when he prayed for the Philippians? Why?
  2. Philippians 1:6 is a cornerstone verse in the Bible's teaching about our assurance of salvation. Why do Christians sometimes struggle with assurance of their salvation?
  3. How does Paul's promise in Philippians 1:6 reassure us of our salvation?
  4. Given his circumstances, why might Paul have had questions about the wisdom of God's plans for him? Why didn't he feel that God had made a mistake?
  5. Not everyone who claims to represent God does so with pure motives. Why should we serve God? What kind of motives should we avoid?
  6. Would you say that your Christian walk is "worthy of the gospel"? Why or why not?
  7. In Philippians 3:10, Paul speaks of his desire to "know" Christ. What do you think he meant by this? How can you and I "know" Christ?
  8. Despite the bond we share in Christ, believers do not always get along. What can we do to help us (and those around us) be “of the same mind”?
  9. How can prayer help us when we feel anxious? What can prayer achieve that other things cannot?
  10. What motivates you to give to the church?
