We hope these questions will help you consider (or discuss with others) what God is teaching you through this month’s study of His Word.

Week One

  1. Who is the intended audience of Luke’s Gospel? Why is this important? (see Luke 1)
  2. What can we learn from Mary’s response to the angel Gabriel’s message in Luke 1:26­–38?
  3. Why were the circumstances of Jesus’ birth so unusual? Why was it different than people’s expectations for the birth of their Messiah? (see December 5)
  4. Who is an older believer who has influenced your life? Why were they important in your faith journey?

Week Two

  1. Satan can tempt us to sin, just as he did toward Jesus. What do we learn from the way Jesus resisted temptation in Luke 4?
  2. After Peter brought in a huge catch of fish, his immediate response was not gratitude, but repentance? Why do you think that was his reaction? (see December 10)
  3. What “extra” rules do we attach to following Jesus? Why do those sometimes prevent others from understanding true Christianity? (see December 11)
  4. Jesus offers forgiveness and peace to those who come in faith. What have you been forgiven of? What act of love can flow from your grateful heart? (see December 13)

Week Three

  1. If you walked around your town asking people who Jesus is, what do you think their answers would be? What is your answer? (see December 15)
  2. Why did Jesus tell the disciples to shake the dust from their feet if a household or city rejected them? (see Luke 10) Do you think that practice should influence our witness today? Why or why not?
  3. Who is your neighbor? Why is it sometimes so difficult to put Jesus’ command into practice? (see December 17)
  4. What is the kingdom of God? What do the parables Jesus told teach us about His kingdom? (see December 20)

Week Four

  1. As you read the parable of the prodigal son, which character do you most identify with? What do you take away from this story? (see December 21)
  2. Jesus told the rich young man, “Sell everything you have and . . . follow me” (see Luke 18). Why was this request so difficult for him? Why is it challenging for us?
  3. How does reading the entirety of Jesus’ story add to your Christmas celebration? Why is it important to understand Jesus not just as a baby in the manger?
  4. What challenges do you face in following Jesus wholeheartedly? How will you resolve to overcome those barriers?
