Courage and Obedience

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.—Joshua 1:9

In March we celebrate Women’s History Month and the significant contribution of women to historic and cultural events. Last March in Today in the Word, we honored the role of women in biblical history by studying women from the Pentateuch: Eve, Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, and others. This month we continue that theme. In these stories we see courageous obedience, bold leadership, God-given wisdom, and sacrificial love. We also see grief and bitterness, deceit and fear, jealousy, lust, and pain. Ultimately, we see the hand of God in people’s lives. Through this study, we will:

  • Appreciate the role of women in God’s redemption narrative
  • Recognize God’s providential grace, love, and power
  • Be challenged and encouraged to walk worthy of God’s calling
