Living in Hope Discussion Starters

Discussion Starters

We hope these questions will help you consider (or discuss with others) what God is teaching you through this month’s Bible study.

  1. What is one new way you can celebrate Advent this year?
  2. Choose one biblical character in the Christmas story who you relate to the most. What is special about this person for you?
  3. Which of God's promises is most precious to you? Why? (see December 2)
  4. Jesus compared finding the kingdom of God to discovering a treasure. What was finding Christ-like for you? (see December 15)
  5. How is biblical hope different than the world’s idea of “hope”?
  6. Now, answer that same question, about the words joy, peace, and love.
  7. What prevents you from experiencing God’s hope, joy, peace, or love?
  8. Can you name a Christmas carol or favorite hymn that expresses each of our Advent themes: hope, joy, peace, and love?
  9. Christmas is a familiar topic. What new things did you learn from this study?
  10. Try writing your own Christmas benediction (a special prayer or blessing). Include our themes of hope, joy, peace, and love.
