  • July 2020 Issue
Discussion Starters

The book of Joshua takes its readers on an exhilarating journey of God fulfilling his promise to a people group who are on a quest for a place to dwell after decades in the wilderness and centuries in slavery. While today’s readers might not be on a bloody conquest to take over another’s land, there are several important truths found in the book of Joshua that are extremely applicable for today.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Name some quests or missions you have coming up in the year ahead, especially when the future is unknown. Use this list to pray over this month as we follow Joshua’s quest.
  2. What victories has God delivered to you throughout your life? How can you remind yourself of these when times get tough?
  3. What are some ways you can become a better leader to the people in your circle of influence?
  4. Have you declared your home, your family, or your business to “serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15)? What changes might you make to clearly show that commitment?
  5. God makes numerous promises with His people throughout Scripture. Find one that is special to you and explain why it holds meaning in your life.
  6. Have you ever experienced the transition of a beloved leader? How did it affect you? How did you see God work through that experience?
  7. Do you find it difficult to stick up for God? Tell about a time when you needed courage to disclose your identity as a Christ-follower.
  8. What label(s) have you been given? What changes in your life when you truly realize you have a new label as the son or daughter of the King?
  9. What commitments do you need to renew in your life? What effect might it have to renew that relationship or recommit in that situation?
  10. Have you ever thought of your personal life as your kingdom? What would change if you truly surrendered your kingdom to God?
  11. Do you feel too old or too young to serve God? What do you think holds you back from serving God wholeheartedly? How can you take steps to change that thinking?
