Discussion Starters

We hope these questions will help you consider (or discuss with others) what God is teaching you through this month's study of His Word.

  • Even though the book of Esther does not directly use the name of God, what does it reveal about His character?

  • How have you seen God’s providence in your own life and in the lives of those around you?

  • How have you seen God work, in spite of the choices that you or others have made?

  • What decisions do you have before you today—inconsequential or monumental?

  • Have you seen people in power act out of fear to protect their position? Have you ever done so yourself? Or been tempted to?

  • In what ways do you identify with Esther’s dual identity? What daily decisions must you make about how to live that out that dual identity with integrity and love?
  • How has God used pain in your life? In the lives of those you love?

  • What have been the most “defining moments” of your life? How do you see God’s hand in the midst of them?

  • When has God called you out of passivity and into active obedience? Is He calling you right now?

  • Have you experienced a “reversal of fortune”—in your own life? In the lives of others? No matter how “dramatic” your salvation experience was, the most significant “reversal of fortune” was when you went from being God’s enemy (Romans 5:10) to his heir (Romans 8:17).
