The Church and Its Ministries

  • Nov 2018 Issue

Moody professors always encourage our students to become part of the local church during their studies at Moody Bible Institute. Even though they have chapels, prayer gatherings, worship services, and Practical Christian Ministry assignments in their curriculum, “You have to go to church,” as one professor says, and she gives a simple reason: “That’s all we have!”

What makes the church so different and unique? What is its foundation, and what holds us together? How to deal with hypocrisy and other flaws? Can everybody find a place there? And after all, is it really necessary to attend church services regularly? We’ll look for answers to these and many other questions in this month’s Bible study with Today in the Word. As we read about the church and its ministries, we’ll have a deeper insight into our lives as believers, as a community of faith, and as a body of Christ. We’ll see that the church, composed of imperfect people, is the place where Christ dwells in a special way in His Spirit, making it a perfect family for every believer.

Our prayer for all of us who study the Bible with Today in the Word is that we will “as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe [ourselves] with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Col. 3:12). We pray that love will reign above all in our hearts and in our churches!
