Question and Answer

My life is very hard. None of my prayers get answered. Does God have it in for me?

I don't know how hard your life is, but you must have good reasons for describing your life as being very hard. It is harder than it should be, at least when compared to the average person's experiences. However, your life (mine too) cannot be harder than that of the author of Psalm 56. Read the psalm and ponder its account of affliction and terror. Then read again the author's repeated affirmations of confidence in God, focusing on verse 9: “This I know, that God is for me” (NASB). We followers of Christ can be sure of His unfailing love. And, He who said He would never leave us or forsake us can be trusted to be not just with us but also on our side.

We don't need to try to write out a theory of suffering; it is enough to cite the testimony of centuries of godly sufferers: that in their darkest hours they never stopped believing that God was for them.
