What is the difference between soul and spirit according to the Bible?
Some think that there is no difference, and they may be right. But I understand the Bible to teach that people consist of a body, a soul, and a spirit. A body allows us to live within a tactile world, the soul is our personality (emotions and will), and our spirit represents our ability to interact with God. The Bible characterizes unregenerate souls as spiritually dead to God. It is only the Word of God that awakens the spirit of man. The Bible is “living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit” (Heb. 4:12). The body, soul, and spirit make us one whole person. Without question, we are to worship God in all three areas of our lives.
