Wrath and Mercy

A Study in Jonah, Nahum, and Habakkuk

The LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.—Habakkuk 2:20

The last twelve books of the Old Testament are called the Minor Prophets. Although they’re minor in size, they are mighty in theology. These books aren’t typically at the top of anyone’s list of favorite books of the Bible. Why? Apart from Jonah, they’re difficult to understand and can seem like little more than promises of God’s judgment for sin.

But as we read through Jonah, Nahum, and Habakkuk, we’ll see the Lord’s glorious might and fierce love for His people. We’ll witness His loving care and righteous judgment. We’ll understand how He’s sovereign over all things and celebrate His great faithfulness. These books may be hard to understand, but the riches they contain are worth the energy it takes to mine them.
