Discussion Starters

We hope these questions will help you consider (or discuss with others) what God is teaching you through this month’s study of His Word.

  1. Do you see yourself as an “image-bearer” of God? How does understanding your identity as God’s creation affect the way you live?
  2. Have you ever hidden in response to shame? Why is hiding ineffective when it comes to our relationship with God? (see March 2)
  3. How is God calling you today? What do you think He is prompting you to do?
  4. Like Sarai, we can be impatient when the fulfillment of God’s promises seems delayed? Describe a time when you took matters into your own hands when you should have waited for God to act. What did you learn from this? (see March 8)
  5. Abraham was asked by God to do a very difficult thing. When God’s call is challenging, how do you respond? What prompts you to obey, even when it is costly? (see March 14)
  6. What will the next generation learn from you and pass on? If you could pass on one important truth about God to others, what would it be?
  7. Rebekah and Jacob both engaged in deceit. Why and when do we find ourselves acting deceitfully? What do their stories teach us? (March 19)
  8. Jacob’s late-night wrestling match was really a struggle with God that resulted in radical transformation. Describe a time when you struggled with God. What happened afterward?
  9. Are there idols in your life that you need to purge? (see March 25) Make a list of two or three things that can become idols for you.
  10. How have you seen the providence of God in your life? Describe a time when God gave you courage and presence of mind even when your circumstances were painful.
  11. What qualities did you display as a child that God has continued to develop in your adult life?
  12. Which woman’s story has resonated most deeply with you? What have you learned about God by studying their lives?
